Official 2027 dates

  • Examination: 7 October 2027.
  • Applications open: 17 June 2027, 8:00am UK local time.
  • Applications close: 15 July 2027, 8:00am UK local time.
  • Reasonable-adjustment application deadline: 23 July 2027.
  • Results: the Federation lists six weeks after the examination.

Who can take the examination?

The Federation states that there are no entry requirements for the SCE in Dermatology. Full MRCP(UK) is not a prerequisite. Doctors in UK training posts would normally take it in their penultimate year of higher specialty training. Check the Federation's current regulations and registration instructions before applying.

Entry requirements for the examination are separate from requirements for a training programme or specialist registration. Passing the SCE does not itself confer specialist registration.

How to apply

2027 deadlines: applications open 17 June at 08:00 UK local time, close 15 July at 08:00 UK local time, and reasonable-adjustment applications are due 23 July
Save all three 2027 deadlines and confirm the current details with the Federation before applying DermSCE editorial graphic

Follow the official Federation application guidance for your examination account. Confirm current fees, identification requirements and delivery arrangements there. If you need reasonable adjustments, check the evidence and submission requirements well before the deadline.

A practical revision plan

A three-stage revision plan: build breadth using the blueprint, practise with questions and image review, then consolidate with timed practice and weak-area review
Build breadth, practise actively and consolidate rather than collect more resources DermSCE editorial graphic
  • Before applications open: read the published blueprint, try official sample questions and choose a manageable set of revision resources.
  • Early revision: work through topics systematically and record concepts you misunderstand, rather than only your percentage score.
  • Later revision: revisit weak areas, practise image interpretation and complete timed sessions.
  • Before the examination: confirm booking instructions, identification and travel arrangements. Consolidate learning rather than collect new resources.

No timetable guarantees a pass. Adapt revision to your clinical experience, available time and learning needs.
