Free Dermatology SCE practice questions: where to find them and how to use them
Where to find genuinely free Dermatology SCE practice questions, how to judge a free sample before you pay, and how to turn a handful of questions into effective revision.

Free questions serve two purposes. They let you trial a question bank before you part with any money, and they are a low-stakes way to warm up and find your weak spots. The trick is to use them deliberately rather than clicking through a few out of curiosity and learning nothing.
Where to find free questions
- The official sample questions. The Federation publishes free sample SCE questions that show you the house style and difficulty. Start here.
- Free image practice. DermNet and the BAD e-learning resources give you a large, free supply of clinical and dermoscopy images to test yourself against.
- Question bank samples. Most banks offer a free set so you can try the interface and the quality of the explanations before subscribing. Our own bank gives you 25 free questions with full worked explanations.
How to judge a free sample
- Explanation depth. Does it teach, or just confirm the letter of the answer?
- Image quality. Dermoscopy and histology images are central to the SCE, so check the bank includes them and that they are clear.
- Blueprint coverage. Is the content mapped to topics so you can target weak areas?
- Timed practice. Can you sit questions in timed blocks to rehearse pacing?
- Currency. Do the answers reflect current BAD and NICE guidance rather than dated advice?
How to actually use free questions
- Do them in a timed block, not one at a time between other tasks. The clock is part of the exam.
- Read every explanation, including for the questions you answered correctly. The reasoning is the learning.
- Log your weak areas as you go, and turn them into a short revision list.
- Do not burn them all at once. A free sample is most useful spread across a couple of sittings so you can see whether the questions hold up.
When free is not enough
Free samples are deliberately small, and the SCE rewards volume and breadth. Once you have found a bank whose explanations you trust, commit to it early so you have time to work through the whole curriculum more than once. A large bank with worked explanations, image questions and blueprint mapping will take you much further than scattered free sets ever can.
